FAQ
Who are you?

OmniTraining is a company founded in 2007 to provide access to the hundreds of articles written by Charlie Schluting throughout the years.

The original idea has evolved considerably. With feedback from readers, we're begun focusing more on training issues and explaining "how things work." There's also tons of Free Articles; in fact, any members-only content has been published publicly at one time. The value-add here is carefully organized reference material of world-renowned IT articles, and more recently the videos and books sections. Exclusive OmniTraining-only content is continually growing, as other authors and industry leaders continue to produce content.

Charlie Schluting, BS in Computer Science, MBA in International Business, is a true techie at heart. His experience started in Network Engineering, then moved on to Senior Unix Administration, Systems Architect, and finally he became an IT Director. In an effort not to lose touch with his techie roots, he started OnmiTraining with just a few contract employees.

OmniTraining also offers in-house IT training at very reasonable rates. See the OnSite Training menu for details.

Who is the content most applicable to?

Everyone; or at least that's what we strive toward.

We do not have much Microsoft Windows content. Regardless, even if you're a Windows-only IT shop, the Networking, Storage, Security, and Management sections have much to offer. You may find references to Linux concepts, or ERP systems running on big Unix boxes, but the content is guaranteed to be informative and applicable.

There are many differences, for example, between University IT and Corporate IT. The primary researcher/author has worked in both, therefore we publish content that you simply won't see elsewhere. Many people think that some University IT issues aren't applicable to the corporate world, but they often are, and their struggles can teach valuable lessons. Let us show you how.

Overall, the material focuses on large-scale deployments of IT systems, and the issues involved. Web hosts, ISPs, corporate networks, university environments, and even medium-sized businesses will benefit.

How does OmniTraining relate to Gartner or the Burton Group?

Primarily, as mentioned, our content is real-world. We're taking products, procedures, and technologies and actually using them in production environments (not test labs). That is how OnmiTraining provides such insights.

Another major difference is that we focus on Training, not research. We strive to illuminate the issues with certain technologies, but we also explain what they are and how things work. Furthermore, to be blunt, we have more content for less cost. We also explore a breadth of topics, instead of writing 20+ page "reports" about a technology that just re-explains everything you've already read. This information is what you need to know. We issue short to-the-point reports many times a week. This is a major differentiator, and we feel our largest competitive advantage.

Said another way, we have content for both management and technical staff. We also enjoy blurring that line at times.

How about a free preview subscription for a few days?

You can preview our content via the numerous Free Articles we have available.

We don't offer free passes to the member content, but your satisfaction is guaranteed. If you're unhappy for any reason, you can cancel your subscription and receive a refund for the remaining time.

Also note that a monthly subscription can be converted to a yearly one at no cost - we will refund the $14.95 you paid for the monthly subscription.

How often is the content updated?

Multiple times each week. We will always post at least one new article every few days.

Training Videos are being produced more frequently now; you can expect one per month, on average.
